🌙 2021 Hybrid Hangang Nightwalk42K|15K Course Completion Review

📌 This post was originally published on my Naver blog in October 2021 and has been migrated here. For the latest event information, please refer to the official platform.

This was an event I had been eyeing since the previous year. The name alone — Hangang Nightwalk42K — was enough to catch my attention. I decided to join the 15K course, not too long, not too short.

Due to the pandemic, I assumed it might be empty, but surprisingly, it was quite relaxed and safe. Walking the Han River at night with my mom turned out to be a refreshing way to rediscover the city from a completely new angle.

📦 Nightwalk Package for Participants

Hangang Nightwalk42K package

One day, a package quietly arrived at my door. Normally, these items would be picked up at the event site, but due to COVID-19, everything was shipped directly.

The kit included:

  • Bib number
  • Two types of drinks
  • Headlight
  • Skincare sample set
  • Discount coupons from event sponsors

It was a surprisingly decent package. The headlight and bib, in particular, came in handy during the walk.

✅ 15K Course Map & QR Checkpoint Verification

The 15K course consisted of three checkpoints: Start → Ichon CP → Finish. You had to scan a QR code at each checkpoint using your phone. Make sure your battery is full, and I highly recommend bringing a power bank. Your progress is tracked on the official event site.

If you wanted to receive a completion certificate, you also had to upload:

  • One photo by the Han River
  • One photo near a public road
  • One screenshot from a walking tracker app

You had to finish within 4 hours to be eligible for the certificate. I completed it in around 3 hours and 40 minutes.

👣 Walking Review: Night Views, Weather & Mindful Steps

My walking record during the event

This event made me realize something: Usually, when I say “Should I go for a walk by the Han River?”, I don’t mean 15K. But once there’s a clear goal and course, your mindset shifts.

  • The night view along the river was breathtaking.
  • Many couples and families were walking, creating a calm, laid-back atmosphere.
  • The forecast said it would drop to 2°C the next day, but during the walk, the autumn breeze felt perfect.
  • It was my first time walking this far along the Han River with intention — not just aimlessly.

Above all, walking wasn’t just physical exercise. It turned into a sort of urban retreat — like meditative travel on foot.

📝 Why I Recommend the Hangang Nightwalk

  • A safe walking marathon event held in the heart of Seoul
  • Encourages participation with QR-based checkpoint tracking and a certificate
  • Great for solo walkers, couples, and families alike
  • 15K is beginner-friendly but still gives you a real sense of accomplishment

The system was simple, and the ability to track and prove your walk made it even more rewarding. With the combination of city nightscapes, ambient music, and crisp seasonal air, it was truly memorable.

This was a day that reminded me — you can still “travel” within your city. If you love walking or are looking for a unique urban activity, Hangang Nightwalk42K is absolutely worth trying at least once.

Since the event is held every year, I recommend joining in the year you’re interested.
