FIIL GS Open-Ear Earbuds: My First Impressions

I used to use bone conduction earphones (S brand, around ₩200,000). I was interested in open-ear earbuds, but since my ears and ear canals are very small, most earphones on the market didn’t fit me well, so I stuck with the bone conduction ones, which were at least comfortable.

Bone conduction earphones were great because they didn’t block my ears, but the design, which hangs slightly behind the head, was always uncomfortable, especially with my hair, which is an awkward length between a pixie cut and a bob. The cord would get in the way, making my hair look even puffier, and it bothered me whenever I lay down.

Using the FIIL GS open-ear earbuds for the first time, I had none of those issues. They feel secure even though they rest on my ears, and they don’t get caught in my hair, which is a huge relief. I can even lie down while wearing them without any discomfort.

📝 How to Use

Using the FIIL GS is simple. Just put the earbuds in and wear them on your ears. They stay securely in place, so there’s no risk of them falling out while you move.

When you take the earbuds out of the case by grabbing the silicone tip on the ear-hook part, they automatically turn on. A sound effect plays to let you know when they’ve connected via Bluetooth. I’ve used several Bluetooth earphones, and their sound effects are usually pretty generic, but the one on the FIIL GS is surprisingly nice and crisp. I find myself listening to it every time I connect. The song that plays while it’s waiting to connect is especially great.

To play or pause music, or to answer or end a call, you double-tap either the left or right earbud. To reject a call, you press and hold for 2 seconds.

🎧 Fit & Stability

My ears are very small, so earphones often don’t stay in place. But the FIIL GS seems to have a great ergonomic design that provides a strong, stable fit. I even tried running while wearing them, and they stayed securely in place without any wobbling.

They are also ultra-light at just 6g, so my ears don’t hurt even after wearing them for a long time. I also tried wearing them with my blue light-blocking glasses while working on the computer, and they didn’t feel heavy at all.

My mom was curious and wanted to try them on. She loved how comfortable they were and took them out for her workout. So I didn’t get to use them myself for a while, 😂

🔊 Sound & Call Quality

The biggest appeal of the FIIL GS is its LDAC + Hi-Res certification. I was honestly surprised to see LDAC support at this price point. When I listened to them, the soundstage felt wide, and the instrument separation was clear, making for a very satisfying music experience.

The call quality was also better than I expected. When I talked to a friend, they said my voice was very clear, and I could hear them clearly as well. As it happened, there was a renovation going on in the apartment upstairs, but my friend said they didn’t notice the noise at all. The AI-based ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation) feature was truly noticeable.
